About Sara

Hello! I’m Sara Rauch, an author, editor, and writing instructor based in Western Massachusetts.

My debut short story collection, What Shines from It, won the Electric Book Award and was published by Alternating Current Press.

XO, my second book, an autobiographical essay investigating my obsession with romantic love, my relationship with God, & the death/rebirth cycle, was published in spring 2022 by Autofocus.

My prose has appeared in several literary magazines, including Paranoid Tree, Paper Darts, Split Lip, Gravel, So to Speak, Hobart, and Luna Luna, as well as in the anthologies Dear John, I Love Jane: Women Write about Leaving Men for Women (Seal Press, 2010), Best Lesbian Romance 2014 (Cleis Press), and She’s Lost Control (Post Mortem Press). My poetry has been published in Claw & Blossom, upstreet, Inkwell, and more.

I’ve written book reviews and author profiles for Lambda Literary Review, Bitch Media, WBUR, Bust, Curve Magazine, The Rumpus, The Establishment, and more.

I’ve worked as an independent editor for 15+ years. I founded and edited the (now-closed) literary magazine Cactus Heart. I hold an MFA in Fiction from Pacific University and I teach at Pioneer Valley Writers’ Workshop and Grub Street. You can sign up for my writing newsletter, The Conduit, here.

As for writing projects, I’m in the early stages of drafting a coming-of-age novel set in the summer of 2001.
