Hello & welcome!
I’m Sara Rauch, an author, editor, book reviewer, and writing instructor based in Western Massachusetts.
A bit about my writing
My debut short story collection, What Shines from It, won the Electric Book Award and will be published by Alternating Current Press in March.
My prose has appeared in several literary magazines, including Paper Darts, Split Lip, Gravel, So to Speak, WomenArts Quarterly, Hobart, and Luna Luna, as well as in the anthologies Dear John, I Love Jane: Women Write about Leaving Men for Women (Seal Press, 2010), Best Lesbian Romance 2014 (Cleis Press), and She’s Lost Control (Post Mortem Press). My poetry has been published in Claw & Blossom, upstreet, Inkwell, and more.
A bit about the work I do
A long-time book reviewer for Lambda Literary Review, I’ve also written reviews and author profiles for Bitch Media, WBUR, Bust, Curve Magazine, The Rumpus, The Establishment, and more.
Way back forever ago, in my idealistic 20s, I took a job for an independent book publisher, and despite all the warnings that “no one reads anymore," my life’s work has been built on stories. I’ve worked as an independent editor for over a decade. I founded and edited the (now-closed) literary magazine Cactus Heart. I hold an MFA in Fiction from Pacific University and I teach at Pioneer Valley Writers’ Workshop and Grub Street.
As for my own writing, I’m currently revising a novel, and (very) slowly composing a collection of lyric essays.
